Well, I don’t know if you’ve had this experience yet, but if you get out and about in the fishing world these days, you will see a new motor in town, and it is amazing! It’s the Evinrude E TEC G2. I just got mine rigged out on my Ranger 520C, and all I can say is wow!
First of all you can get it in a large variety of colors. Personally I prefer black with silver accents. The hole shot on this boat is amazing. It is undoubtedly the most responsive motor I’ve ever used. You may be thinking they put all of their energy into the hole shot and that there would be nothing left for the top end, but my Ranger is running in the mid-70s no problem.
The other thing I’ve noticed is that it is extremely economical. I’m burning only a fraction of the gas I burned last year. I haven’t had it long, but from everything I have seen so far, I can tell it’s going to be the best motor I’ve ever owned!
When I was a kid, just getting interested in the outdoors, there were two main shows I watched on TV. The first one was Bassmaster. I’ll never forget those pros catching fish and Bob Cobb narrating. They would only show one or two Pros, but you got to know them and know them well. The other show was Fishing and Hunting Texas. It was a look into all different kinds of fishing and hunting situations across the state of Texas. What I loved was the variety and the different ways in which the hosts pursued game.
As I recently crossed from Texas to Louisiana on my way to Florida, I found myself reflecting on what an extraordinary state Texas is for all kinds of outdoor activities. Yeah, there are other states that boast outdoor activities, great fishing and hunting, but for variety of species and terrain, there is no other state that even comes close to Texas.
Hog hunting. You know, pigs get a bad rap in the state of Texas. People can’t stand them. They bother feeders, they are always in the way, the scare deer, they tear up the land. But I hate to say it, they’re here to stay. So we might as well enjoy hunting them!
